A Mechanical Aptitude Test is usually a written test (often multiple choice) which is designed to rate one's reasoning ability in areas considered crucial to mechanical aptitude. The test can take one to three hours. The test usually covers:

26. Is there any way I can study or prepare myself for a Mechanical Aptitude Test?
Yes; and it is highly recommended that you do so. Most applicants are eliminated at this stage for failing to score high enough on this test. Try to find out from the JAC what sort of problems will be on the test and concentrate on those areas. Make every effort to obtain one of the following study guide:
Allow yourself at least two weeks of preparation before the test day and study at least one hour a day. The
importance of scoring high on this test cannot be overstated!
